Newborn session in Ojai, CA

Newborn sessions are always so special to me. I love getting to meet all of the new babies — especially if I had the privilege of being there to photograph their coming into this world! This session was with a one-month old and I was especially honored to capture these memories because this little cutie is the granddaughter of one of my midwife colleagues. Mom and dad are —clearly — beyond thrilled to be first time parents and expand their family in beautiful Ojai, California. Everyone, including the cats and dogs, played vital roles in creating a comfortable atmosphere that reassured everyone involved. The adorable golden retriever must have sensed that this was a special day, because he was sure to ham it up for the camera! As an Ojai Birth Photographer, I am delighted to have documented such a joyous occasion.

We call this type of session a “lifestyle newborn session” which just means we want you to just be yourselves as much as possible. It means we will not pose you or the baby, and we definitely won’t put the baby in a basket and set up a bunch of lighting equipment. We want to capture your family as you are, enjoying these moments with your new baby, so while we might have you sit in a part of your house that gets good natural light, and we might ask you to hold baby between you, beyond that, we hope that you will just enjoy some time together and let us focus our lens on your family.
